Brinkley Morgan, a full-service South Florida law firm, is pleased to announce two awards honoring attorney and firm partner Yueh-Mei Kim Nutter: a Community Impact Advocacy Award from the Faulk Center for Counseling and recognition as one of South Florida’s Top 20 Women in Law by the Daily Business Review.
Faulk Center for Counseling Community Impact Award
Nutter will receive a Community Impact Advocacy Award at the Faulk Center for Counseling’s inaugural Community Impact Awards & Reception on Thursday, November 5 at Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton. She is being honored for supporting the Faulk Center’s mission of providing free and low-cost mental health counseling services to people of all ages. Since 1973, the Faulk Center has provided psychological and support-group counseling to people of all ages, from children to the elderly, including individuals, couples and families, in addition to support groups for specific issues and concerns.
Daily Business Review Top 20 Women in Law
The Daily Business Review, a regional business newspaper, honored Nutter at its second annual Women in Law recognition luncheon on Oct. 14 at the JW Marriott Miami. Selected from more than 70 candidates spanning the full spectrum of the legal profession, Nutter was honored for her notable 23-year career in family law and her achievements in South Florida’s legal community.
For more than 20 years, Nutter has served as a guardian ad litem in family law for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit for Broward County and in the family law, criminal and dependency courts for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit for Palm Beach County, advocating on behalf of abused and neglected children.
As past chairperson of the Attorney Ad Litem and Guardian Ad Litem Ad Hoc Committee for the Family Law Section of The Florida Bar, Nutter helped create a new program designed to train mental health professionals, attorneys and volunteers to serve as Guardians ad Litem in family court proceedings, which entails investigating issues concerning children and making recommendations to the court that are in the best interest of the child. She now owns and operates that program, called Speaking for Kids, Inc.
Nutter also leads two annual, complimentary family law seminars for mental health professionals and accounting professionals in South Florida. Hosted by Brinkley Morgan, the seminars provide continuing education credits and cover topics that affect clients during family disputes such as divorce, paternity, dependency, and more.
Florida Bar board-certified specialist in marital and family law, Nutter concentrates her practice in the areas of family law, civil litigation, guardianships, and probate and estate litigation. She also is recognized by the Florida Supreme Court as a certified family mediator, a certified appellate mediator, and a certified guardian ad litem.
Additionally, she is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a founding member of the Collaborative Family Lawyers of South Florida, Inc., a charter member and officer of the South Palm Beach County Collaborative Law Group, co-chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association, and a member of the board of directors of Impact 100 Palm Beach County.
In addition to her most recent honors, Nutter also received a 2014 Exceptional People Impacting the Community (EPIC) award from the Mental Health Association of Southeast Florida in recognition of her efforts to improve the lives of South Florida’s residents and advocate for persons with mental illness.
